January 20th Upgrades & Enhancements

| | |

On January 20 WebHostNY will be migrating servers. Over the past several months we have noticed a degradation of the service and download speeds of all web sites we host. Our history of up time and support for your needs has been very good over the years and we do not wish to lose that.

On Saturday, January 20 we will be moving to a more secure – and better connected – location that will provide better up time and faster data transfer as well as better security. During this time, you may experience intermittent down time on your web site. (This will not affect your email, which is hosted at a separate data center.) Those of you who have on-line shopping sites may want to consider posting a message on your home page so potential prospects are not discouraged or turned away.

During the past year, WebHostNY has invested in initiatives which we think can have major benefit to your on-line business activities. We will tell you about them briefly here, and we would be happy to talk about them with you.

Blogs. Over the past 18 months, Blogs have become a new and exciting tool for easily communicating via a web sites. Blogs provide the capacity to put new information live on the web as fast as you can think it up, and they do a lot more. Blogs are great for creating communities; our blog capabilities are part of a content management solution that allows you to create polls, surveys, forums, collaborative projects, and much more. WebHostNY has always been security conscious, and we know that many of the blog software packages have large security loopholes, which can make your terrific blog become a terrific headache. We have spent the past 6 months researching software and we have come up with a content management system offering that will be more secure – and more flexible – than almost all other blogs, and we would love to tell you about it.

Email Server. In the upcoming months, we will be making some major upgrades to our mail server. We expect any downtime will be negligible, and you will be notified. When you log on to the web-based mail server after the upgrade, you may notice a difference in your opening screen, which will allow you to choose Pronto, a new web interface that offers many advantages over other web mail programs. There are more features such as additional ‘skins’, which allow you to customize the look of your email, and additional services such as group calendars and scheduling, which can be shared online. For very little money, those of you who have employees who work remotely will have shared calendars and schedules to help organize your workflow across locations. These services can be completely integrated with your desktop Outlook software as well as many Mac mail programs. Please take a look around after the upgrade to see how your email can become more efficient with these new capabilities.

Finally, we’d like to use this opportunity to make sure our records are up to date. This will be a great help for us in responding to your requests for service when emailing your support tickets to us. Please take a moment to complete the survey, and be sure to tell us which of our new features you would like to learn about, as well as verifying your information
